Topic 3 The role of youth in the SDGs

Today, there are 1.8 billion people between the ages of 10-24—they are the largest generation of youth in history. Young people have been seen as the driving force of change in communities around the world. They are recognised as agents of change and essential to the realization of the SDGs.

Role of youth:

  • Be Critical Thinkers: Youth have the capacity to identify and challenge existing power structures and barriers to change.
  • Be Change Makers: Youth have the power to act and mobilize other youth across the world.
  • Be Innovators: Youth are seen to bring fresh perspectives and create alternative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems.
  • Be Communicators: Youth have the capacity to communicate in a meaningful way that contributes to change.
  • Leaders: When empowered with the right leadership skills, young people can drive change.
